Belvedere Palace (Belvedere Schloss) was built by Prince Eugene of Savoy. The construction of the Lower Belvedere began in the early 18th century. The Lower Belvedere was a garden villa designed by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt and is a perfect example of baroque architecture.

The Upper Belvedere was also designed by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt and was build between 1720 and 1723. The two buildings are surrounded by beautiful French gardens designed by the French landscaper Dominique Girard who was trained by André Le Nôtre. André Le Nôtre was responsible for the landscaping of such gardens as Jardin des Tuileries, gardens of Versailles, Champs-Élysées in Paris, St. James's Park in London and many more.

Belvedere Palace is a popular tourist attraction. The gardens are a perfect retreat from the busy streets and the Palace is beautifully decorated with frecsoes, paintings and works of Art.

Belvedere Palace is a home of the Belvedere Austrian Gallery (Österreichische Galerie Belvedere). The gallery houses remarkable collection of Austrian art from the Middle Ages to the present day. The Gallery is proud to house the world’s largest Gustav Klimt collection.

Augarten Contemporary - Thursday to Sunday 11 am to 7 pm
