Graben is the main shopping street in
Vienna. The architecture of the buildings is absolutely awe-inspiring. The Graben is pedestrian only street with clothing stores, souvenir shops, jewelry stores and cafes.
Graben begins at
Stock-im-Eisen-Platz and ends at the intersection of
Kohlmarkt and
Tuchlauben. Except the remarkable buildings and architecture Graben features fountains and monuments. One of the most famous is the Plague column
(Pestsäule).
The column was erected to commemorate the end of the plague epidemic in Vienna. It was commissioned in 1683 and was made of marble with sculptures of angels. Pestsäule sculptures are designed in high baroque topped with the golden figures of the Holy Trinity.
