SoHo - SoHo information and pictures

SoHo is a neighborhood in lower Manhattan which was once an industrial area, with cobblestone streets and cast-iron warehouses. SoHo is a historic district bounded by Houston Street, Canal Street, West Broadway and Crosby Street and is an acronym for “South of Houston Street”. Most of the cast-iron buildings in New York are in SoHo and were constructed from 1840 to 1880.

In the 1960s a lot of artists began moving in the low rent warehouses and by the 80s more people were attracted in the area because of the large upper stories lofts.

Today SoHo is a trendy fashionable neighborhood with lots of cafes and restaurants. The prices of the lofts have skyrocketed and the artists moved out of the neighborhood leaving the Art galleries and boutiques behind.

I love the shoe stores in SOHO. There are hundreds of shoe stores and a lot of variety. Last year I went to NY and I found myself with 3 pairs of shoes in no time. Love this place!
