If playing in the sun is your idea of fun, then you will enjoy the 3.5 miles of beaches. The city of Santa Monica cleans and rakes them daily. A lifeguard is always on duty during daylight hours and the Lifeguard stations offer 24 hour year round assistance. So, if you are looking to participate in the swimming, surfing, biking, volleyball or outdoor chess you can rest assured that you will always be safe and treated like you were home.

If you would rather have a little more excitement then you could try the Santa Monica Pier which dates back from 1908. It offers an amusement park that has an arcade, a historic Carousel, bumper cars and a solar-powered Ferris Wheel. There are also Farmer's Markets that sell the cut flowers and fresh produce along with live music and chef exhibitions from local restaurants. Your whole family will find something to do here.

If you are in the mood to spend some money than Santa Monica is the place. The cities 8 districts each have their own distinct flair. For example, the very fashionable will enjoy the boutiques on Main Street. On the pedestrian only 3rd Street Promenade, shoppers will find name brand stores that offer toys to art to fine home furnishings. Also, if you are a musician you will enjoy the musical instrument stores on Montana Avenue.

If you long for a peaceful day then you could check out the art galleries. The 18th Street Art Complex and The Broadway Gallery both have exhibitions of international and local artists’ work of multimedia and fine arts. Also, numerous art galleries can be found within Bergamot Station on Michigan Avenue in the Mid-City district. Or you can just walk the street and see the public art, sculptures and murals that decorate the city. Art enthusiasts will have a hard time picking out what is best.
