Getty Museum – J. Paul Getty was an avid art collector who made his fortune in the oil business. His idea was to create a broad art collection and present it to the public as well as to create a research institute, educational programs and conservation programs.

J. Paul Getty Museum has 2 locations – one at the Getty Center in Los Angeles and the one at the Getty Villa in Malibu.

The Getty Museum at the Getty Center opened in 1997, and houses paintings from European masters, sculptures, drawings, decorative arts and photographs.

The Getty Museum at the Getty Villa opened in 2006 houses art from Ancient Greece, Etruria and Rome. The exhibits at both locations of the museum are free for the public.

Where is Getty Center in Los Angeles: 1200 Getty Center Dr.

Opening hours: Friday and Saturday from 10AM to 9PM; the rest of the week from 10AM to 6PM

Where is the Getty Villa in Malibu: 17985 Pacific Coast Hwy

Opening hours: Thursday to Monday from 10AM to 5PM
