Nice like most of the old European cities has Old Town and New Town. The Old Town
or Vieille Ville
sits at the base of Castle Hill and is the most delightful part of Nice. Narrow streets and red-tile roofs give this part of Nice an exotic feel to it. Cours Saleya
is a pedestrian street, in the heart of the Old Town. It is lined with cafes and restaurants and is a perfect way to grab a bite and enjoy a glass of rosé. The Castle Hill is a great place to go for a walk and offers incredible panoramic views of Nice's Old Town and Nice’s Port. Roman ruins can still be seen in the neighborhood of Cimiez
. It is also a home of the Henri Matisse Museum.
Promenade des Anglais
is a boulevard that stretches for 5 kilometers along the Mediterranean Sea. It is where everybody comes for a stroll, bike riding or roller skating to enjoy the sun and the panorama along the coast. The Promenade was built in 1830 and is lined with stylish hotels, restaurants and shops. The beach is covered by large pebbles and the sea has unmistakable deep blue color. Every year in the spring there is a Carnival celebration along the Promenade. People from all over the world come to the Carnival to see the musicians and dancers and to join the celebrations.
on the Promenade des Anglais is one of the most remarkable hotels in Nice. It was built in 1912 and overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. The distinctive pink dome was designed by none other but Gustave Eiffel. Built by a successful Romanian immigrant, Henri Negresco, The Hotel Negresco today is listed by the government of France as a National Historic Building. Hotel Negresco has 119 guest rooms and 22 suites.
is the main square between the Old and the New Town in Nice. A tram runs through this spacious square lined with red painted buildings.
