Fairmont Château Laurier is a magnificent limestone building which reminiscent of a French château. It is situated in downtown
Ottawa right across
Parliament Hill and the
Rideau Canal. The hotel was commissioned by Grand Trunk Railway, the same company that built the
Royal York Hotel in
Toronto and
Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in
Quebec City.
The Fairmont Château Laurier Hotel was built between 1909 - 1912 across the street from the Ottawa's Union Station (now the Government Conference Centre).
In 1999, the hotel was renamed to Fairmont Château Laurier after Canadian Pacific Hotels & Resorts acquired Fairmont Hotels.
