Cannes is located on the French Riviera on the Mediterranean Sea in the south of France on a strip called Côte d'Azur. Cannes is a top tourist destination and is famous for its hotels, beach, and of course The Cannes Film Festival (Festival du film de Cannes).

The Cannes Film Festival is held each spring at the Palais des Festivals et des Congres. The Palais des Festivals is located on the palm tree lined Boulevard de la Croisette which runs along the seafront. The Festival was launched in 1946 and has become a significant venue for European movies. Outside of the Palais des Festivals are the hand prints of dozens of famous movie stars – the Walk of Fame of Cannes.

Cannes is also known for its grand and luxurious hotels that overlook the Mediterranean Sea. Carlton Hotel and Martinez Hotel are both luxury seaside resorts. Carlton Hotel was built in 1909 and has 338 luxurious rooms. Most of the movie stars who attend the Cannes Film Festival stay at the Carlton Hotel each spring. Martinez Hotel was built in 1927 and is located on Boulevard de la Croisette. The convenient central location makes it a preferred destination for the rich and famous. The hotels along the Boulevard de la Croisette that overlook the sea have private beaches. There is a public beach east of the grand hotels.

Cannes Castle is another favorite landmark located on the hill overlooking the city of Cannes. A visit to the castle rewards you with a splendid view of the city and the Old Port. The Notre Dame Esperance Church is located close to the castle on the hilltop.

City Hall Cannes (Hotel de Ville Cannes) is an elegant building situated in the city center, just below the Cannes Castle.

To visit Cannes by air you need to arrive at the Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport. Nice is located 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) east of Cannes and a shuttle bus operates every half hour form the Airport.
